Building Thinking Classrooms

Virtual Implementation and Networking Sessions

Back by Popular Demand

Building Thinking Classrooms is the culmination of 15 years of research, led by Dr. Peter Liljedahl, in which he worked with over 400 K - 12 teachers to try to break through any and all institutional norms and get students to think.

Join us for five virtual sessions to help support the implementation of the toolkits in Peter’s research. Connect with other teachers to share ideas, troubleshoot potential barriers, and celebrate successes. Each session will focus on a different toolkit from the book, with the first session focused on “How do we start our year?”

The intended audience for these sessions includes anyone who has begun this journey - perhaps you have read the book, started to implement, or are deep into the journey. The goal is to connect you all!

Cost: $25 for Educators and $15 for Undergraduate Teacher Candidates

Jamie Bernath has completed 25 years of teaching middle school math at Parkview Middle School in Ashwaubenon, WI.  She has been using BTC for the past 3 years and has presented at the CPM and WMC conferences on the topic of bringing equality of mathematics through using BTC strategies.  She is most excited to create more thin sliced lessons this year.

Crystal Marie Vesperman has 21 years of math teaching experience and is currently at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. She is a longtime presenter at WMC’s annual conference. Crystal has used BTC practices with her students for the last two years.  She is particularly excited to try fostering student independence during this school year and is looking forward to amazing discussions during this virtual networking project.

Mallory Smith has 17 years of experience in math education and leadership.  She is currently an instructional coach at Hartford Union High School where she works with teachers to make thinking visible in all classrooms.  She is excited about using BTC techniques to engage all students in their learning and learning more from other educations through this virtual networking group.
