Thanks for making the 2nd Annual Pi Run a Success!
The second annual Pi Run/Walk was held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the WMC Annual Conference in Green Lake. Despite the cool, wet weather, more than 30 brave participants gathered at the Pi starting sign outside of Kern Lodge to walk/run the 3.14K. The event offered opportunities for serious runners to compete while others enjoyed their time walking and talking with former and new math colleagues. The first male and female to cross the finish line were Ben Schwinn of Middleton and Deana Peterson, a student at UW-Eau Claire. They both received delicious fruit pies, compliments of Hubbard Avenue Diner and Bakery, Middleton, WI. All participants received Pi Run t-shirts sponsored by the Goose Blind Grill, Green Lake, WI, and a pair of shoelaces printed with the first n digits of pi. Proceeds from the event went to the Wisconsin Mathematics Education Foundation (WMEF). The total amount of money raised for WMEF by the Pi Run was $1320. WMEF plans to make this an annual event at the Wisconsin Mathematics Council Annual Conference, so we look forward to seeing you at the 2014 Pi Run/Walk!
